Problem set 11 - answers + explanations to extra problems. Lecture 32 extra question #1. Yeast were grown in the presence and absence of galactose (+/- gal). A similar second experiment was performed using a gal80 antibody. Finally, a third sample was immunoprecipitated with an antibody that recognizes the form of. In the gal4 immunoprecipitates, the amount of pcr product is the same in the presence and absence of galactose. This means that the same amount of gal4 protein was bound to the uas sites in both conditions. In fact, we know that gal80 doesn"t bind to dna at all it binds to the gal4 protein. Note one could conclude from these results that gal80 either directly or indirectly binds to. Uas sequences, or that it associates with them that covers both possibilities: gal80 has histone methyltransferase activity. Just like we can"t conclude that umbrellas cause rain it"s a correlation, not cause- effect. Lecture 32 extra question #2.
