He prays to apollo to let the trojans settle in latium. The priestess said that there are more trials in italy. He asks sibyl if she can let him enter dis so he can talk to his father"s spirit. She said that to enter he must have a sign and find a golden branch in the nearby forest. If he breaks it off the tree easily it means fate calls aeneas to the underworld, if it does not come off them he can"t go. The branch does come off the tree and he brings the branch back to the priestess and she leads him to the gates of dis. Inside the gates there is a river of acheron and the ferryman, charon delivers spirits across the river.
