EDPE 300 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Dependent And Independent Variables
Document Summary
Elaboration: a cognitive process in which learners expand on new information based on what they already know. They give us information about the characteristics of students, teachers or schools. They might also provide information about the frequency with which certain events or behaviors occur. These studies allow us to draw conclusions about the current state of affairs. These studies give information about the extent to which two variables are interrelated. They are often described numerically with a statistic known as a correlation coefficient. Correlations between two variables allow us to make predictions about one variable if we know the status of the other. Experimental study (experiment): a study in which the researcher somehow changes or manipulates one or more aspects of the environment (independent variable) and then measures the effects of such changes on something else (dependent variable). These studies enable us to draw conclusions about causation- about why behaviors occur.
