Behaviorists contend that feelings etc, occurring inside a person cannot be observed so they cannot be studied scientifically. So, they focus on stimuli and responses: learning involves a behavior change. Learning is something that can be observed and documented and should be defined as a change in behavior: learning is most likely to take place when stimuli and responses occur close together in time (contiguity of events).
