Between 1981 and 1987, over 40,000 people died of aids in the us. "gay people who were getting what they deserved" Act up was a group for people who were angry about aids and how the government was not doing anything about it. People wanted access to drugs and a quicker approval process, the fda process took years. Fda administration was the start of the aids movement. Need to break down the group into smaller groups so you know each other and can support each other. Incentives in the hospitals not to diagnose people with aids and therefore people don"t get treated. The church wasn"t supportive of the aids movement. Health, control and rights of your body were the main goals and therefore it aligned for the goals of women"s rights movements. "die in" was more effective because it was silent. Act up was not getting very much support because people did not like them that much.
