Document Summary
The program of health conversation was designed for the upper and middle classes of society based on the model of non-natural elements. Environmental factors such as air, food and drink, functions of motion and rest and natural sleep and wakefulness. Non-naturals were seen as the primary factors responsible for human health and were subject to manipulation in order to ensure health. A positive health was attached to the satisfaction on feels in their physical and moral existence, a condition of bodily and psychological well being that resulted in a more enjoyable and longer life. Sickness was seen as an unavoidable evil that endangered individuals and the community. Authors stressed the economic drain of sickness for the afflicted, their families and the state. Hygiene: a term that serves to designate the first of two medical procedures, the one concerning the conduct necessary to follow for maintaining the state of existing health.
