JWST 382 Chapter Notes - Chapter 02-01: Social Inequality, Pacifism
Document Summary
Hosea: prophet of love, whose faith in man destroyed crime and penitentiaries. Hosea is remarkable for his mercy, but it does not mean that those who were less so should b discounted (ie amos) Need earlier, less merciful prophets--they were the base for those like hosea. There r commonalities btwn the 2, even. Hosea acquired new insights of forgiveness thru experience. Christians attempted 2 win sinful jews over thru violence--no compassion 4 the sinner then. Those who accept women who are turn to sex trade r acting in allegiance to hosea. Death penalty is against hosea, especially when the accused was pressured into their situation. Reflects the false idea that criminals are born . Need to see that they r made--then we will b applying ideas of hosea. Harshly judging criminals w/out addressing the causes of crimes. Need to see the hope of spiritual redemption in the corrupt.
