Minimal realism has degenerated realism to the point where realism today can include all the. If all three assumptions are possessed by realist theories, then the theories will become a distinct paradigm rather than be a conglomeration of all theories including: realism, liberalism, epistemism, and intuitionalism. Core realist premise: the impact of ideas, domestic institutions, economic interdependence, and international institutions actually re ects the exogenous distribution and manipulation of interstate capabilities. Hw, most contemporary realists invoke variation in state preferences, beliefs, and international institutions > variations that often trump the causal signi cance of power. Minimal realism: an approach that retains only two assumptions anarchy and rationality neither of which is distinctly realist. The mislabeling of realist claims has obscured the major achievement of realist works: to deepen and broaden the proven explanatory power and scope of the established liberal, epistemic, and institutionalist paradigms.
