Evaluation research, also called program evaluation refers to a research purpose rather than a specific research method. This purpose is to evaluate the impact of social interventions such as new teaching methods, innovations in parole and a wide variety of programs. Many methods - surveys, experiments, and so on can be used in evaluation research. The growth of evaluation research reflects social scientists" increasing desire to make a difference in the world. We can"t discount an influence of an increase in government requirements that program evaluations much accompany the implementation of new programs and the availability of research funds to fulfill those requirements. Special ethical issues arise from evaluation research generally and from its specific, technical procedures. Evaluation is a form of applied research and its intended to have a real world effect. Social indicators research involves the creation of aggregated indicators of the health of society, similar to the economic indicators that give diagnoses and prognoses of economies.
