Decide in the beginning phases of your research whether it will be exploratory, descriptive, or explanatory. Conducted when a researcher wants to test the feasibility of conducting a more extensive study. Therefore, they want to figure out the lay of the land of the particular topic. Little prior research has already been conducted on the subject. Researcher thus wishes to do exploratory work to learn what method to use in collecting data, how best to approach research subjects, or even what sorts of questions to ask. Another reason to utilize this sort of research is if the researcher wishes to satisfy their own curiosity about a topic. Example: conducting a research on child-free adults while unsure of what the results may be; little empirical research had been done, so the initial goal is to get a better grasp of what child-free people"s lives are like. Goal of research is to describe or define a particular phenomenon.
