Robbery is one of the most feared crimes. Most robberies dealt with by police are muggings or holdups of commercial establishments. Data based on interviews with 113 male northern california robbery offenders (1971-72) Reading will focus on the most important decisions being made and the decision-making process. Since robbery has severe consequences, you"d think robbers do a lot of planning that"s not the case. A lot of robberies were random and/or for random reasons. A lot got involved due to partners or influence of friends. Some didn"t see it as robbing they felt it was theirs or it was owed to them. No difference between motives among black and white men. More than half did no planning at all. Other times, some minor planning took place the day of. Commercial robberies often more planned than those of individuals (60% vs. 30%)
