What are values values: a broad tendency to prefer certain states of affairs over others. Values are motivational, and signals how we believe what we should behave. They are socially reinforced by parents, teachers, and representatives or mentors. Different generations are perceived as: traditionalist: respectful to authorities, high work ethic boomers: optimistic workaholics. Gen y: confident, social, demanding of feedback, somewhat unfocused. Gen x & y value money, status, and rapid career growth more than boomers; also having more self-esteem, narcissism, and sees work as less central, values leisure, having a work-life balance. Some suggest the values of all generations are the same, but they prefer a different expression of the values. Work centrality: the extent to which work is perceived to be a central life interest. Cultures that put their work to a high extent in centrality tend to work more hours. Often they spend time after work to social with their business partners.
