The role of information systems in business today. 1: media and advertising, new federal security and accounting laws. Businesses sought to sense and respond to rapidly changing customer demand, reduce inventories to the lowest possible levels, and achieve higher levels of operational efficiency. Companies of all sizes rely on just-in-time (jit) inventory to reduce their overhead costs and get to market faster. Management information systems are known for their continual change in: Business success comes from firms ability to adapt to continual change. Entirely new systems are taking over the old. Three interrelated changes of technology: the emerging mobile digital platform (i. e. iphones, bbs, and tablets, the growth of online software as a service, the growth of cloud computing where more and more business software runs over the internet. New technological products on the market represent new emerging computing platforms.
