Earth revolves around the sun in an elliptical path. They revolve around an ecliptic plane or the revolution. In january 4th, the earth moves closer to the sun and is called perihelion. (147 million km) In july 4th, it"s the farthest away from the sun (152 million km) and is called aphelion. Longitude and latitude are used to find locations of the earth. Time is a convenient way to tell time. Earth is flattened near the poles, while it bulges around the equator. Earth"s rotation is offset by 23. 5 degrees, from the perpendicular plane and the northern axis which aligns to polaris. The circle of illumination separates the dark and light areas of earth. The circle touches the arctic and antarctic circles during both equinoxes. On june 21st and is the beginning of summer (north) and winter (south). The sub solar point is 23. 5 degrees north (the tropic of cancer)
