Gad continued and intro to panic disorders statistics: surveys showed that approx. 1% of the canadian population met criteria for gad during a given one-year period: other surveys show that it was approx. 3% similar rates were shown in rural south africa and the usa relatively few people with gad come for treatment compared with patients with panic disorder. 10% of anxiety clinic patients meet criteria for gad b/c most people with gad seek help from their primary care doctors. 2/3 of ppl with gad are female (more women to men ratio) *stressful life events may play a role in the development of gad excess of life stressors compared with someone without the disorder. Other studies found gad to be associated with earlier and more gradual onset than most other anxiety disorders. Most often chronic once it is developed. Prevalent among seniors: most common in older-aged adults. May be a genetic contribution: gad tends to run in families.
