Freud"s theory has been extensively denunciated and continuously in history after his death. There are other psychologists that came after him that made a more suitable variant of freud"s theories. Psychoanalyst"s today attempt to leave the overemphasis on sex and aggression and focus more on interpersonal aspects of life. Freud believed that relationships with other people occurs via mental images of them called objects and objects relations theory. Attachment theory focuses on attachment to significant figures or attachment figures. Interpretation of freud"s ideas and theories are variable. There are many interpretations and we can never be sure which one did freud have in mind. Therefore, many theorists after freud summarized freud"s theories and combined their own ideas to make a modified version of psychoanalysis. For example, libido is more accurately described as a life drive rather than only have a sexual connotation. Attempting to modify freud"s original theory makes you an advocate.
