PSYCH 2B03 Chapter Notes - Chapter 12: Personal Construct Theory, Industrial Revolution, Thrownness
Document Summary
Experience, existence, and the meaning of life: humanistic and positive. Humanistic psychology is based on the premise that to understand a person, you must understand her unique view of reality. Everything a person hears, feels, and thinks. The way you experience the world is the most important psychological fact about you. Different individuals have different views of reality, as do different cultures. The only way to understand a person is by seeing the world in the same way they do. The mind is different from other subjects of study, such as biology and chemistry, because it is aware. This has two implications: psychology must address awareness, self-awareness brings about many uniquely human phenomena, including free will, awareness, happiness, etc. Holistic: human system is greater than sum of its parts. Phenomenological: focus on interior, experiential, and existential aspects of personality. A person"s phenomenology: one"s conscious experience of the world.
