Fast-dividing: take up little space, divides asexually (2-4-8-etc) Prototrophic - wild type bacteria (grow and divide on minimal medium--> substrate containing only inorganic salts. Auxotrophic mutants can be obtained from a prototrophic culture--> will not grow without cellular building block adenine.
