Document Summary
Organic compounds are mostly molecular but some are ionic. Hydrocarbons containing only single bonds are called alkanes they are named by doing the prefix and then the suffix ane which indicates that it is an alkane. Hydrocarbons with one or more double bonds are called alkenes. Isomers are molecules that have the same molecular formula but different arrangements of the atoms in space. Defined as individual atoms or groupings of atoms that are attached to the carbon chains or rings of organic molecules and give the molecules their characteristic properties. Cooh is carboxyl they have acidic properties on a molecule ho-c=0 the hydrogen here is ionisable which means acidic. Compounds that have this group are called carboxylic acids which can be recognized by oic acid. When present as functional groups halogens have the names fluoro, chloro, bromo, and iodo. To name alcohols replace last letters of chain to yl alcohol.
