Conformity: a change in behaviour of belief to accord with others, can be good or bad, or not matter, western cultures view conformity as bad. Complience: conformity that involves publicly acting in accord with social pressure while privately disagreeing. Obedience: acting in accord with a direct order. Accpetance: conformity that involes both acting and beliving in accord and social pressure. Sherif"s studies of norm formation: can we observe the emergence of a social norm in a lab, wanted to isolate then experiment social phnomenon of norm formation, autokinetic phnomenon. Even a year later they will go with group norms: confederate. Gave people an estimate of how far light moved. People conformed: we tend to follow behaviour sub conciously. Behaviour influences attitudes and emotions and us mimicing leads us to feel what they feel. You are nicer to people who mimic you. Can happen large scale: suggestability comes in waves.
