Later babylonians incorporated the flood story into their composite version of the epic of. The yearning for the everlasting life takes hold of gilgamesh after the death of his friend, Enkindu, searches out ziusudra (utnapishtim), to gain from the secret of eternal life. Hebrew account: flood is sent because of a sin, and the hero is saved because he is righteous. Sumero-babylonian: hero = saved out of mere favouritism and the gods send the flood. Sumerians were among the first peoples to produce epic tales of semi-legendary heroes: gilgamesh: ruler of the mesopotamian city-state of uruk (erech) The quest of gilgamesh: who is most splendid among the heroes? . Theme = death: the sudden realization that death will cut short the glorious career of the great hero and the frantic by unsuccessful search for some means of living forever. Gilgamesh drafted their sons to serve in his army. Goddess ishtar falls in love with gilgamesh; which contains no romantic element.
