Facebook is a social space that allows everyone to be connected - it says we are friends with 700+ people. Social media has refined universally, who we consider to be friends. In ancient times to gain a friend took a long time and a lot of trust. It was rooted in the qualities of a person and their pursuit for good and truth. They would avenge one another for their deaths and would choose to stand in place of their friend. Achilles who refused to live without his friend. Christianity discouraged personal bonds between people since everyone should save their hearts for god. Medieval times, friendship required certain obligation and expectations such as taking oaths.
