Document Summary
Gendered racial violence and spatialized justice: murder of pamela george. On april 17th 1995, pamela george, an aboriginal woman who lived on the outskirts of the city of regina and worked as a prostitute, was murdered by 2 young, middle class, white men. Following oral sex the 2 men took turns brutally beating her and left her in an isolated area, left town afterwards but following a tip were arrested for the murder. Native community disagreed, said it was second degree murder, but judge said that there needed to be proof that the murder was intended and planned. Pamela"s background wasn"t mentioned in court, only that she was an aboriginal prostitute, court only focused on the fact that 2 white men lost control. Colonization of aboriginals leads to them only having contact with white settlers through prostitution, policing and the criminal justice system.
