Ethics is a branch of philosophy focusing on morals and morality in their relationships to making decisions: refers to theories of what is deemed acceptable behaviour, morality relates to application of ethical principles. Professional issues are technical, procedural, or cultural standards that members of the profession are expected to accept as part of their practice. The code of ethics does not cover everything, so the interpretations can change. Virtue ethics have two goals: counselor to reach and maintain professional competence, strive for the common good. Professional practice is based on certain basic elements. Intentionality (wanting doing the right thing for those being served: moral principles of the helping profession. Veracity: knowledge of ethical, legal, and professional standards, skills to apply that knowledge. Four self-tests (after solving an ethical dilemma: test of justice, test of universality, test of publicity, check for moral traces or lingering feelings of doubt, discomfort, or uncertainty.
