Lord ruthven: aristocratic vampire who takes pleasure in perpetuating evil and ruining goodness; earl of marsden. Aubrey: young lord whose naivet and love of romance places him and his loved ones in the hands of ruthven. Ianthe: a beautiful, innocent, and intelligent young woman who falls for. Aubrey and whom he falls for; she dies at ruthven"s hands while searching. Miss aubrey: aubrey"s sister, she is a sweet and innocent girl who is taken in by lord ruthven as his bride and becomes another of his victims for aubrey in the woods. Coming into london society, the young gentleman, aubrey, whose parents had died when he was young, and who raised himself upon romantic notions and stories, comes into contact with the simultaneously repulsive and fascinating lord ruthven. Aubrey is invited by ruthven to travel with him. During these travels, aubrey learns that ruthven"s presence causes more pain to the needy and perpetuates the evils" ways.
