The canadian radio broadcasting commission was established in 1932. The mix of public and private broadcasting made canada unique in that era. The canadian approach was to combine both american and british styles of broadcasting. Provide a national public broadcaster while allowing local private commercial radio to flourish. The most important early american variety show performer. Variety shows that weren"t dominated by comedians tended to be all-music shows, usually led by a big band leader or singer.
