Public broadcasting is ideally free of all governmental influence. Public and educational broadcasting are not necessarily the same thing. The bbc started as a company, but was recreated as a corporation to appease both the left and right wing. The bbc started by producing highbrow content and banning private radio stations (as per lord reith"s orders), but discontinued these practices in 1973. Radio was a total free-for-all in the twenties. Cnr was the closest thing to a national broadcaster. Evangelists and religious zealots were attacking each other on air. Canadians wanted more order, a bbc style was proposed. Mackenzie king commissioned a committee to investigate the best option for future broadcasting. King himself favored public broadcasting under political control. Three models were proposed: a public one, a private one, and a hybrid one. Men visited america to survey private broadcasting model, uk to survey public model. Also surveyed canadians to hear what they wanted.
