RTA 210 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Common Booster Core, English Channel, Cbc News Network
Document Summary
When founded in 1936, the bbc"s tv division attempted to uphold the standards set by lord reith for radio. However, at the genesis of wwii, the bbc was shut down for the duration of the war. This was done partly because tv was new, expensive and experimental, but mostly because of a fear the the vhs signals would attract nazi bomber planes. It was also important to reallocate resources to the war effort. Bbc-tv resume operation after the war, but radio was the dominant medium for the british until 1955, with the rise of independent producers. Once the bbc had competition, they strove harder to make their content entertaining as well as informative. Currently, the bbc operates two 24-hour channels, one with comedies, soap operas, documentaries and news programs, and one with more high-brow, niche programming. Today, all bbc-tv networks provide digital service, and require a tv and a decoder box.
