Though the early 40"s had very few notable comedy writers to speak of in television, this shifted in 1947 with the creation of mary kay and johnny . Aired in the us on du mont tv, then moved to nbc, cbs, and nbc again, respectively. This form of network jumping was not uncommon at the time. Mary kay was a ditzy wife, johnny was level-headed and got her out of trouble. The show was notable because it managed to successful adopt a popular radio format: the sitcom. Show was the first to show a couple sharing a bed, but programmers grew concerned that this would offend some viewers. Following mary kay and johnny , many radio sitcoms attempted to move into the medium of tv. This was much easier after milton berle popularized tv as a medium. Many of the shows mentioned as popular radio sitcoms made this jump with moderate success.
