Does not imply any movement toward goals. Intrinsic motivation: internal drive to do something because of interest/challenge/personal satisfaction. Extrinsic motivation: motivation that comes outside, such as pay/tangible rewards/promotions. Employee engagement: state of emotional and intellectual involvement that employees have in their organization. Edward lawler motivation is all about rewards (intangible/tangible) Positive relationship between satisfied/engaged workers and organizational performance. Cyberloafing: employees surfing the internet when they should be working. Poor performance is not always due to poor motivation (employees must have clear/reasonable expectations/right tools and support/willingness and competencies to do the job) Need hierarchy: maslow"s theory that people are motivated by five sets of needs, and that as a lower need is gratified, the person becomes motivated by the next need in the hierarchy.
