The open system both consumes resources and exports resources to the environment. In an open system, inputs to the organizational system includes raw materials, employees, information, money. The transformational process changes these inputs into something of value that can be exported back to the environment. Outputs are products and services for customers, employee satisfaction, pollution, etc.
