A collaborative study is when several investigators work together to address a research problem. In the quantitative study, there are study participants: the people being studied. Respondents: when participants answer questions like in an interview. In a qualitative study, there are informants/key informants/study participants: play an active role rather than a passive role. Researcher: conducts the study (there may be one or more) Some studies happen in naturalistic settings like in peoples homes (qualitative research) or in laboratory settings (quantitative research) Multisite studies: the use of multiple sites offers a more diverse group of participants. Abstractions such as pain, resilience, and grief are referred to as concepts (phenomena) Construct: mental representation of some phenomenon; abstractions that invented for certain purposes. Theory: systematic, abstract explanation of some aspect of reality; group of concepts. Researchers start with a theory or framework.
