The latter demonstrates support by the power of capital, technology, and highly trained specialists that the former lacked. In autonomous art, anything lagging behind the established technical standard does not rate. Film adapted from a novel incorporated the dialogue that was originally written. While a scriptwriter would never write the words that were written in the book, the lines are superior due to its original medium. Artistic difference between the two mediums is greater than expected. In a novel, words are written and distanced by narration - abstracted from the physical sense of a living person. Said distance is abolished in film to the extent that a film is realistic. So, phrases justified by the diction of a narrative sound inauthentic in film. Film must search for other means of conveying immediacy.
