Local government can also refer to controlling/regulating people in a compacted area describing the process of making local decisions. As an example, transportation decisions within a town are made by the mayor and councillors, however, some decisions are also made by provincially appointed authorities decisions made by both groups combine to provide local government in a municipality. Municipal governments, formally, are created by provincial/territorial governments allowing for services of common interest to be provided for residents in specific geographic areas. Municipal governments are corporate entities they are empowered to enter into legally binding agreements with other governments, businesses, organization, unions and individuals. Empowered to deal with a wide range of local issues. While municipalities are overseen by councils and elected people, they exist at the whim of provincial/territorial governments.
