Individual differences: people differ from each other in thinking, emotion, personality and behavior. It is dif cult to come up with explanation of behavior that apply to everyone: reciprocal determinism : people in uence one another in terms of their behavior, behaviors is shaped by culture. Emic approach(collective approach) to study the behavior of a culture from the perspective of an insider. Etic approach(individual approach): to study the behavior of a culture from the perspective of an outsider. This does not apply to psychology due to naive realism observation can fool us: phycologists rely on systematic research methods, scienti c theory : a general explanation for a large number of ndings in the natural world. Misconception #1: a theory explains just one event.
