A lot of short cuts are guesses but most are accurate: ex/ roommates keys are in living room- most likely home (rigorous standards of evidence-based reasoning) Allows us to simplify decisions making it a manageable minimum. Fill in the gaps of missing info using our experience and background knowledge. Chunking: memory aid that relies on ability to organize info into larger units, expanding the span and detail of our memories. Decision making: process of selecting among a set of possible alternatives.
