Thinking: any mental activity or processing of info, including learning, remembering, perceiving, communicating, believing, and decided (fundamentals of cognition) Cognitive economy- imposing order on world read page 308! We economize mentally in order to lose least amount of effort but get the correct answer most of the time. Kind of use many heuristics (short cuts: useful in everyday life, could be survival characteristic. If we had to think about everything, we"d get psychologically paralyzed. A lot of short cuts are guesses but most are accurate: ex/ roommates keys are in living room- most likely home (rigorous standards of evidence-based reasoning) Allows us to simplify decisions making it a manageable minimum. Fill in the gaps of missing info using our experience and background knowledge. Chunking: memory aid that relies on ability to organize info into larger units, expanding the span and detail of our memories. Decision making: process of selecting among a set of possible alternatives.
