A stressor is a situation that triggers the stress response of a person. An acute stressor us a short term stressor and has a definite end point (a near miss in heavy traffic) A chronic stressor is a long term stressor and it lacks an endpoint (being unemployed over time) Different levels of stress are derived depending on how we value the situation. It is our perception of threat that triggers the emotional state we connect to stress. The 4 different kinds of stress are: Feeling frustrated- whenever we are prevented from accomplishing a goal, we feel frustration. Feeling conflicted- conflict is discomfort brought out by two or more goals or impulses that we perceive to be incompatible .
