First signs of aging appear in the 30s small wrinkles, slight drooping, loss of resilience, colour change. Translucence and visualizing veins and bones is a later sign. Discolouration and outgrowths appear in the 50s. Subcutaneous later thins, providing less support & leading to wrinkles. Toenail growth slows down, they become yellowed, thicker and ridged & fungal infections are more common. Loss of tooth enamel causes them to yellow. Tooth loss may also be a sign of aging. Changes of the eyes: appearance of eyebags, crows feet, dark pigmentation, puffiness. Exposure to sun results in age changes related to radiation, called photo-aging. Anti-aging treatments: lotion with spf-15 & uva/uvb protection, alpha-hydroxyacid agents, plastic surgery, injections, artificial fillers, laser resurfacing treatments, microdermabrasion. The number of pigmented hair diminishes and the number of hairs that are no longer pigmented increases due to ceasing of melanin production thus causing grey hair to be predominant.
