Good vs bad stress refers to responses likely to be beneficial versus those likely to be harmful. Distress- stress responses that has negative health consequences. Distress comes from feeling that you have insufficient resources to meet the demands of the situation. Eustress- stress responses that have positive health consequences. Eustress is connected to the notion of optimal arousal: people can perform better and live longer when they reach an optimal level of arousal (i. e. with some pressure on them) One factor underlying the difference between positive and negative stress is its duration.
