Figuring out whether a good argument is resented depends largely on understanding exactly what is meant by the words used. It is easy to let the positive style of the presentation lead us to think that is presents a good argument. Learn to get beyond such superficial features and to identify and assess the merits of the basic argument itself. Weak argument when it presents claims that contradict current standards (drinking age) but fails to provide evidence that the contrary works (not having a drinking age). When other people present arguments, they simply provide you with new arguments to consider in deciding what you should believe. Not just thoughts and opinions of the writer. Rhetorical power when a person can convince others of what he or she is saying. This can be done by the ability to present ideas in a very clear, logical, and convincing manner.
