Power: capacity of a person, team, or organizaion to inluence others. Not the act of changing someone"s aitudes/behaviors, just the potenial to do so. Based on target"s percepion that the power holder controls a valuable resource that can help them achieve their goals. Involves asymmetric (unequal) dependence of one party on another party. Depends on trust indicaing expectaion that the more powerful party will deliver the resource. Countervailing power: a dominates relaionship but b sill has enough power to keep a in the relaionship and an impact over how the power is used. Power comes through legal and admin rights as well as informal norms. Dependence model: core features of power dynamics explains sources & coningencies of power. Legiimate, rewards and coercive power and given formally by organizaion or informally by coworkers. Expert and referent power originate from holder"s own characterisics. Addiionally, info power is a form of legiimate and expert power.
