Patrol officers learn the fundamentals of case investigations during their initial years of working the street. Then later apply these learned skills in more complex investigations when they become part of specialized investigation units (siu) Must also attend to the needs of the victims by mobilizing victim services personnel. Investigative units that focus on specific types of offenders or criminal activities. Outlaw motorcycle gang units, financial crime units, sex offence units. Created to address a particular problem that is perceived to be beyond the capacity of patrol officers or general investigators. Many bring together officers from a number of police services and personnel from other criminal justice agencies. Police units that are distinguished by specialized equipment and tactics. Emergency response teams (erts), strike force unit, bomb squads. More common units include homicide, fraud, auto theft, and robbery. Many police services have added specialty units for high-risk offenders, cybercrime, and sex offences.
