Chapter 11: social cognitive views of learning and motivation. Social learning theory: theory that emphasizes learning through observation of others. Social cognitive theory: theory that adds concern with cognitive factors such as beliefs, self- perceptions, and expectations to social learning theory. Bandura came up with the theory and thinks humans learn through modelling. Triarchic reciprocal causality: an explanation of behaviour that emphasizes the mutual effects of the individual and the environment on each other. Includes social influences, achievement outcomes and self influences. The teacher thinks less of the student already. Vicarious reinforcement: increasing the chances that we will repeat a behaviour by observing another person being reinforced for that behaviour. Ripple effect: contagious spreading of behaviours through imitations. Self efficacy: a person"s sense of (cid:271)eing a(cid:271)le to deal effe(cid:272)ti(cid:448)ely (cid:449)ith a parti(cid:272)ular task. Human agency: the capacity to coordinate learning skills, motivation, and emotions to reach your goals.
