Chapter 4 becoming parents: trending about parenting has changed over the past 30 years. Before about 90% of babies that left the hospital left with a married couple where as now only 60% go home with it. And a fourth importan quality which is cognitive readiness for adulthood. Research also shows that what a mother does a year before pregnancy is also important as it is going to affect the fetus. A low carbh diet and high on fiber can lead to developmental problems. In the past the traditional pathway to f amily formation was school completiions, work, marriage in the early 20s followed by children. These 3 pathways characterized about 68% of the study: the next 3 patterns are not as common. (205) was mothers enter marriage by age 21 and then have children. Another was to work part time and become a single mother.
