Document Summary

We need to do treatments to remove any organic solids, microorganisms, nutrients (nitrates, phosphorous), organics and other mater. Primary treatment: the removal of any solids by screening, locculaion and sedimentaion. The inal stage is to send the liquids to the surface or to groundwater, while the solids are incinerated, disposed of in landills, dispersed in soils or in oceans. There are two kinds of sewage systems: sepic tanks: The irst treatment is in the sepic tank, allowing the solids to setle, and also allowing the natural biological reacions to begin. The tile field (also called leaching ield or absorpion ield) serves to distribute the liquid wastes to the soil. The secondary treatment takes place in the unsaturated zone, where aerobic decomposiion and biological reacions occur. The wastes require suicient ime in this zone to complete reacions, and are dependent on the soils permeability and depth to the water table.
