Generalization: the behavior occurs in the presence of antecedent stimuli that are similar in some way to the discriminative stimulus present when the behavior was reinforced. Response maintenance: extension of behavior change over time, after the program is no longer in effect. Transfer of behavior across situations: behavior change takes place in new/different settings and circumstances. Response generalization: altering one behavior leads to similar changes in another, unaddressed response, usually similar or related to the target behavior. Stokes and baer found that most research did not apply techniques for generalization, and proposed multiple ways of doing so. It"s not always possible to provide reinforcement for the behavior outside the training session. Training skills that contact natural contingencies of reinforcement. Natural contingency of reinforcement: the reinforcement contingency for a behavior of a particular person in the normal course of their life.
