Sources of information: observer ratings, self reports. Reliable observation has high degree of consistency or repeatability. Deal with the issue of reliability = repeat the measurement make the observation more than once. The simplest act of assessment is the single observation or measurement. Self report: ask several times, using different items that reflect self-reliance. Realibiity within a set of observations of a single aspect of personality. Different items have different source of errors: so: using many items should balance out the error, the more observation = more likely the random error will cancel out. Separate the items into 2 subsets (ie. odd vs even numbered items), add up people"s scores for each subset, correlate the two subtotals with each other. If 2 halves of them set measure the same quality, people who score high on one half should also score high on the other half, and vice versa.
