What is culture: consist of abstract values, beliefs, and perceptions of the world that lie behind people"s behaviour and that are re ected in that behaviour. Why do cultures exist: to survive culture must satisfy the basic needs of society and deal with problems and matters that concern its members. How are cultures evaluated: all cultures are equally valid and must not be judged according to standards set outside the culture. Culture: shared ideals, and beliefs that people use to interpret experience and to generate behaviour and that are re ected by their behaviour. Culture is based on symbols: language, signs, dress, and behaviour, human behaviour originates in the use of symbols, most important symbol is language - ability to name and pronounce ideas and things. Culture and change: all cultures change over time, culture change can bring unexpected and disastrous results.
