The rest of the mucosa lining is called the respiratory mucosa and it rests on a rich netowrk of thin walled veins that warm air as it flows. The sticky mucus produced by mucosa glands moistens the air and traps incoming bacteria and other debris (lysozome enzymes) When its cold the cilia in the nostrils become sluggish.
