Document Summary
Analysis involves idenifying both how and why events occur. Answering how and why through theoreical analysis that make theoreical assumpions. Three sets of assumpions: moivaional theories, normaive theories, and macro-historical theories. Assume that you choose or determine why and how you do something. Criicisms: what something is worth to you depends on the situaion and the norms in the society. The value of a reward is set not by you but by society o o. Your choices are condiioned geneically and you are determined to act in a certain way. Litle logic in our choices since we cannot compute the costs and rewards of any acion in a raional way. Social norms can be formal, such as laws or rules established by authority, or informal, which are not codiied but are shared by many people. All socieies need to organize people across their life courses.
